D-8 and SESRIC Discuss Enhanced Cooperation in Research and Capacity Building

Secretary General of the Developing-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8), Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) in Ankara.

During his meeting with SESRIC Director General, Ambassador Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, they discussed strengthening cooperation between the institutions, focusing on joint research projects, capacity-building initiatives, and shared activities.

Key topics of discussion included:

  • The role of statistics and data in evidence-based policymaking.
  • Emerging areas like artificial intelligence and trade.
  • Practical ways to collaborate for the socio-economic development of member states in both D-8 and SESRIC.

The D-8, which comprises Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey (with Azerbaijan joining in 2025), reaffirmed their commitment to deepening institutional ties and leveraging resources for member state benefit.
