Dame Jenni Murray died days after car crash, inquest hears
BBC News reports that Dame Jenni Murray passed away in March this year, eight days after a car accident. An inquest revealed that she died from bronchopneumonia due to rib and sternum fractures sustained in the collision.
According to a statement from Dr. Clare Morkane, Dame Jenni was driving when she was dazzled by vehicle lights and collided with two stationary vehicles. After the crash, she exited the vehicle independently but could not recall the events.
The incident occurred near Hampstead Heath at around 7:45 PM GMT. The crash resulted in multiple rib fractures, a fracture to the upper sternum, and a collapsed lung.
Initially placed on non-invasive ventilation, Dame Jenni was later moved to intensive care where she developed bronchopneumonia.
The Metropolitan Police investigated but closed the case with no further action.
A broadcasting icon, Dame Jenni was a longtime presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, known for her interviews with political figures and celebrities alike. She also openly shared her experiences with breast cancer, weight loss surgery, and menopause with her listeners.
Her legacy includes her damehood, two Sony Awards, and induction into the Radio Academy Hall of Fame.
