DC Reviews Preparations For Upcoming LG Elections

Deputy Commissioner Hussain Ahmad Raza Chaudhry chaired a meeting to review preparations for the upcoming local government elections on Wednesday. District Election Commissioner Arshad Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner Social Services Arshad Wattoo, and officers from education, Health, Local Government, and other relevant departments attended.
The District Election Commissioner informed the meeting that a total of 2,786,000 registered voters were listed in 236 union councils of Sargodha district, comprising 1,420,151 male and 1,279,935 female voters.
The meeting was told that 1,705 polling stations and 5,224 polling booths would be established across the district. These would include 275 male, 258 female, and 1,172 combined polling stations, along with 2,745 male and 2,509 female polling booths. A total of 17,377 polling staff would be required, comprising 1,705 presiding officers, 5,224 assistant presiding officers, and 5,224 polling officers.
The deputy commissioner designated himself as District Returning Officer and appointed 35 Returning Officers, with one officer assigned to every six to seven union councils. Approximately 66 Assistant Returning Officers, belonging to BS-16 and BS-17, were also required.
Chaudhry directed the preparation and submission of a list of 40 officers for appointment as Returning Officers and 80 officers for Assistant Returning Officers. He also requested details of employees from BS-1 to BS-20 from all relevant departments to compile comprehensive data for polling staff deployment.
He instructed the concerned authorities to immediately provide details of government offices, schools, basic and rural health centers, and other public buildings available in all union councils. Prioritizing buildings with water, electricity, washrooms, furniture, and other basic facilities, he noted that around 1,200 government buildings would be required for polling stations, adding that officials should maximize the use of available public buildings.
The deputy commissioner emphasized the need to complete all preparatory work for the local government elections without delay. Additional Deputy Commissioner Social Services Arshad Wattoo and Deputy Director Local Government were tasked with collecting all required information and submitting it to the Election Commission within three days. A deadline of September 15, 2026 was set for finalizing all arrangements.
