The videos also showed VVIP buildings and areas around the hotel, prompting a departmental inquiry.
NEW DELHI (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026)
A Delhi Police constable deployed for security duty during the 18th BRICS Summit has been suspended for making Instagram reels while using official weapons and posting videos of sensitive security locations on social media.
According to Indian media outlet The Print, Constable Deepak Bangar was posted with the Foreigners Cell in northwest Delhi and was deployed for security at a five-star hotel in central Delhi during the BRICS Summit. Tight security arrangements had been made at the hotel because foreign delegates were staying there. Bangar had been assigned sniper duty on the hotel roof.
Police officials later came across two videos posted by him on Instagram, in which he could be seen with official weapons.
- In one video, Bangar appeared in civilian clothes, wearing a BRICS Summit 2026 identification card and holding an official pistol. The video also showed the area around the hotel.
- In the second video, he appeared to be surveying the surroundings through the scope of a sniper rifle, with nearby VVIP buildings visible in the background.
Both videos had been posted from his Instagram account, @jaat.bangar.0143, which was later blocked. After the videos surfaced, Delhi Police took immediate action, removing Bangar from BRICS security duty, suspending him and sending him back to his home district.
A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the matter was being taken seriously as disciplinary negligence. A departmental inquiry had been ordered to determine the circumstances in which the videos were made and uploaded. Police officials said further disciplinary action could also be taken under the rules in light of the inquiry.
Sharing such photographs and videos on social media during sensitive security duty raises concerns about the security arrangements and the disclosure of information related to sensitive locations.
