On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Director General Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Saif Anwar Jappa visited village Sahmal in Tehsil Bhowana and reviewed areas hit by river erosion on Monday.

Accompanied by Chief Engineer Rivers Department, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Chiniot, Assistant Commissioner Bhowana, Rescue 1122, and officers of the Planning Department, Jappa inspected the affected areas, met with local residents, and heard their concerns.

Rivers Department officials informed that funding for a protective stud in Mouza Sahmal to prevent further erosion has been approved and construction will commence shortly.

Saif Anwar Jappa emphasized that emergency measures are being taken to control river erosion as per the Chief Minister’s orders. He added that the Punjab government, district administration, and PDMA stand with the affected people and all available resources are being mobilized for their protection. Efforts will be made to construct a flood protection dam for permanent safety of the area, while other diversionary water solutions are also under exploration.

On this occasion, Jappa directed concerned departments to ensure close coordination, take immediate steps to prevent erosion, safeguard people and infrastructure, and submit daily progress reports on ongoing measures.
