Kylian Mbappe: Dictator meme shows ‘lack of awareness’, says Real Madrid forward – BBC Sport
BBC Sport reports on a recent incident involving Kylian Mbappe and a viral meme.
"Dictator meme shows lack of human awareness" – Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe has criticized a meme that superimposes his face onto a dictator’s body, stating that it reveals a "lack of political and human awareness" among some viewers. While he understands the humorous intent, Mbappe emphasizes the meme’s misrepresentation of serious historical figures who have caused immense harm.
"There’s a funny side to it because you can sense that, for some people, it’s good natured… but we know the damage people like that have caused throughout history… I don’t think I’ve done that in my life."
The forward also addresses the "Mobut" nickname he received from team-mate Ousmane Dembele, referencing Mobutu Sese Seko, the former dictator of the Democratic Republic of Congo. He clarifies that Dembele used the term jokingly, taken from social media.
