Diesel and Petrol Rates in February vs. Current Rates
Diesel was Rs286 per litre and petrol was Rs258 per litre in February. Now, diesel is priced at Rs393 per litre and petrol at Rs364 per litre, marking a substantial increase of Rs107 and Rs106, respectively.
Fawad Chaudhry’s Statement
Former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry has expressed his concerns over the rising fuel prices, stating that the Shehbaz government’s policies have led to economic turmoil. He highlighted the dramatic rise in diesel and petrol prices since February.
Diesel was Rs286 per litre and petrol was Rs258 in February, but after today’s increase, diesel had reached Rs393 and petrol Rs364.
Government’s Response and Price Hikes
OGRA has announced yet another significant increase in petroleum product prices. The new rates are:
- Petrol: Rs367.75 per litre
- Diesel: Rs392.67 per litre
These prices will come into effect from midnight tonight.
Transporters’ Reaction and Strike Threat
The Goods Transport Owners Association has called for a 10% increase in fares due to the rising diesel prices, threatening another strike if their demands are not met. They emphasize the burden on transport costs and the difficulties faced by operators with existing fares.
Prior Criticisms
Earlier, Malik Shehzad Awan, President of Goods Transporters, had strongly condemned daily changes in petroleum prices, describing them as unacceptable and calling for an immediate withdrawal of such decisions.
