District Administration to Form Anti-Smog Squad to Curb Pollution
DERA GHAZI KHAN, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – September 10, 2026) The district administration has decided to intensify anti-smog measures and directed the formation of an anti-smog squad to ensure effective control of air pollution and curb violations of environmental regulations.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the District Anti-Smog Committee held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Ahmed Raza Butt on Thursday.
Ali Raza, Assistant Director Environment, who served as the committee’s secretary, presented a briefing on ongoing anti-smog measures, major sources of environmental pollution, and the performance of relevant departments.
According to the briefing:
- Transport contributes 43% of smog.
- Industry accounts for 25%.
- Agriculture makes up 20%.
- The energy sector is responsible for 12%.
The meeting was informed that 132 brick kilns are operational in the district. As part of enforcement actions:
- 19 kilns have been demolished.
- Challans for registration of cases have been submitted against 20 kiln owners.
- 123 notices have been issued.
Officials reported 82 incidents of crop-residue burning in the district last year, and action was taken against those involved. Affidavits are also being obtained from farmers promising not to burn crop residues during the current season.
The meeting further discussed the operation of 51 stone-crushing units in the district, with the following outcomes:
- Ten units have been sealed.
- A fine of Rs400,000 has been imposed.
- 33 notices have been issued for violations of environmental laws and inadequate water sprinkling.
It was decided that vehicle-checking points will be established at various locations across the district from next month, focusing on verifying fitness certificates. Vehicles emitting excessive smoke will be stopped from operating on roads. An Anti-Smog Squad comprising officials from the Regional Transport Authority, Traffic Police, and other relevant departments will be constituted for this purpose.
The meeting also agreed to launch a large-scale plantation campaign to control smog and environmental pollution, assigning responsibilities to relevant departments.
Ahmed Raza Butt directed officers to ensure effective implementation of anti-smog measures and take indiscriminate action against all elements contributing to environmental pollution.
The meeting was attended by Secretary RTA Nazar Hussain Korai, Assistant Commissioners Muhammad Nauman Majeed, Hafiz Umar Saeed, and Asghar Majeed, Chief Officers from various departments, and other relevant officers.
