Diverse Group Joins Chinese Language & Culture Program in Islamabad
A diverse group of more than 60 participants, ranging from university students and academics to tech professionals and government staff, has gathered for a three-day Chinese language and culture training program that kicked off in Islamabad.
Launched by the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) in collaboration with the China Cultural Center in Pakistan, the program runs from September 7 to 9 and builds on the success of the inaugural four-day session held last month at the Department of Archaeology and Museums (DoAM) in Islamabad.
As the second edition of the “Language of the Eastern Silk Road – Bridging China and Pakistan, Celebrating Shared Cultural Splendor” series, the curriculum covers:
- An overview of Chinese culture
- Pinyin phonetics
- Character strokes
- Calligraphy
- Traditional festivals
The goal is to equip every attendee with basic greetings, self-introductions, numbers, and simple everyday expressions by the end of the course.
Organizers noted that registrations had far exceeded available slots, highlighting a growing and widespread interest in Chinese language learning across Pakistani society. Bai Jie, chairperson of the Pakistan-China Cultural and Economic Promotion Association, expressed confidence in refining course materials and improving on-site arrangements for future editions. She also highlighted lively discussions beyond the classroom on modern Chinese lifestyles among participants.
