DUBAI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM – 09th Sep, 2026) DP World and Kenya-based GulfCap Africa signed an agreement, in the presence of Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, for the development of the Mombasa Industrial Park, planned as a 222-hectare Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
The agreement builds upon the partnership announced by DP World and GulfCap Africa in early August. It advances plans for development and solidifies DP World‘s expansion goals in Kenya through end-to-end industrial and logistics infrastructure to boost trade and investments in East Africa.
Key Points:
- First Phase: The SEZ’s initial phase will cover 40 hectares, with full development attracting FDI, expanding local manufacturing, and strengthening regional and international market connections.
- Interest: Over 60 local and international companies have expressed interest in the SEZ, projected to support over 20,000 jobs upon completion.
- Opportunities: The development will benefit Kenyan suppliers and service providers, including SMEs, integrating them into global supply chains.
- Market Access: Businesses in the park will leverage Kenya’s access to key markets through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union, and Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the United Arab Emirates.
President Ruto’s Statement:
"Today we take a significant step towards Kenya’s future economy. The tripartite agreement between DP World, the Government of Mombasa, and GulfCap demonstrates what is possible when government creates the right environment for business. Government will support this industrial ambition with necessary infrastructure to make it competitive."
Essa Kazim’s Statement:
"Kenya is a market of strategic importance to DP World, and this agreement reflects our confidence in its long-term growth. Our investment in the Mombasa Industrial Park is about creating infrastructure that enables trade, attracts industries, and connects Kenyan businesses efficiently with markets across Africa and the world. Together with GulfCap Africa, we are moving from ambition to delivery."
