Deputy Speaker Calls for Expansion of TVET and Small Industries in Upper Chitral
PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 8th Sep, 2026) Deputy Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Suraya Bibi on Tuesday stressed the need to expand technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and small industries in Upper Chitral to create employment opportunities and promote self-reliance among youth, particularly women.
She expressed these views during a meeting with officials of the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) and Small Industries Development Programme (SIDP) at the Provincial Assembly.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral Muazzam Khan, Managing Director Small Industries Abdul Hameed, Managing Director TEVTA Mian Abdul Qadir Shah and other relevant officials attended the meeting and briefed the deputy speaker on their respective departments.

Practical Training Programs: Suraya Bibi directed TEVTA to introduce practical training programs tailored to modern young people’s needs, especially women, in Upper Chitral.

Awareness Campaign: She called for an awareness campaign in coordination with the district administration and Youth Officer to inform local youth about available technical courses.

Vocational Training at Jail: The deputy speaker directed authorities to launch special vocational training programs at the Lower Chitral Jail, offering prisoners courses in electrical work, plumbing, solar technology, motor mechanics, computer and IT skills, mobile phone repair, tailoring, carpentry, and food processing.

Interest-Free Loans: She also directed authorities to create awareness among skilled youth about interest-free loan opportunities under the Ehsaas Hunar Programme.

GTVC Activation and Skill Development: Suraya Bibi asked TEVTA to activate the Government Technical and Vocational Centre (GTVC) in Booni, introduce technical courses for female students, establish a hostel for students from remote areas, and increase teacher numbers.

Employment Exchange Office: She also directed authorities to initiate the process for establishing an Employment Exchange Office in Upper Chitral.
Suraya Bibi emphasized that improved facilities, easy access to loans, marketing support, and modern training could transform local resources and skills into sustainable income sources.
She identified dry fruits, honey, handicrafts, carpet weaving, fruit processing, trout fish, and other local products as areas with significant potential for value addition and job creation.
