Election Tribunal Suspends GB Assembly Member Syed Imam Malik
GILGIT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – September 11, 2026) The Election Tribunal has ordered the suspension of Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly member Syed Imam Malik and directed the recounting of all postal ballot papers within five days.
The tribunal formally announced the suspension of Malik’s primary membership and ordered the counting of postal ballots under Order 85 and Section 95.
Imam Malik contested the Gilgit-Baltistan elections as an independent candidate from GB-16 Diamer and later joined the IPP after winning.
The Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan accepted an application filed by IPP Secretary General Mian Khalid Mahmood and issued an official notification confirming Imam Malik’s joining of the IPP.
Syed Imam Malik, who contested the election from GBA-16 Diamer-2 as an independent candidate, secured a narrow victory of 24 votes over his rival, Attaullah. The returning officer did not count the postal ballot papers when issuing Form 49 and issued a provisional Form 49 on the basis of Form 47.
Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Attaullah challenged the provisional Form 49 issued by the returning officer before the Gilgit-Baltistan Election Tribunal.
