Emirati Airline Aircraft Sends Emergency Signal, Makes Emergency Landing In Saudi Arabia

A Dubai-to-Tel Aviv flight issued a distress signal en route, prompting Israeli fighter jets to be placed on alert and an emergency declared at Tabuk Airport.

JEDDAH/ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Sep, 2026) A Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv suddenly issued an emergency signal during the flight, redirecting the aircraft towards Saudi Arabia instead of Israel.

According to a Saudi broadcaster, the incident triggered serious security concerns in the region after the flight transmitted an emergency code associated with unlawful interference or a possible hijacking. Israeli authorities later ruled out the possibility of a hijacking, attributing the incident to an alleged altercation in the aircraft’s cockpit.

Flydubai flight FZ1073, departed Dubai International Airport for Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport on September 30th. About two and a half hours into the flight, it encountered an unusual situation and transmitted an emergency signal. Flight-tracking data showed that the Boeing 737 MAX 8 suddenly lost significant altitude before changing course.

The situation alarmed Israeli security agencies because Israeli citizens were on board and the aircraft was heading towards Tel Aviv. Fighter jets were reportedly placed on alert to respond quickly in case of a hijacking or security threat. Meanwhile, Tabuk Airport in northwestern Saudi Arabia prepared to receive the aircraft and deal with the emergency. The plane eventually entered Saudi airspace and landed safely at Tabuk Airport.

Flydubai confirmed an incident during the flight and that the aircraft reached Tabuk safely with all passengers safe. They stated their teams were working with relevant authorities, promising further updates when available.

The incident's seriousness increased after flight-tracking information indicated the plane first used a general emergency code and then reportedly transmitted code 7500. In aviation, code 7500 is associated with hijacking. However, subsequent reports presented a different explanation for the initial concerns.

Citing Israeli security sources, reports stated that the two pilots had fought in the cockpit, causing the situation to spiral out of control and leading to the emergency signal. A regional official told The Associated Press that a fight had occurred in the cockpit, though its motives remained unclear. These details emerged during the investigation, and Flydubai has not yet confirmed the full nature of the incident.

Passengers also reportedly said they heard shouting from the front section.
