Mark Wood Announces International Retirement
BBC Sport reports that Mark Wood, the England fast bowler, has retired from international cricket immediately. The 36-year-old two-time World Cup winner has struggled with injuries throughout his career, including recent knee and elbow issues.
"Although this may not come as a surprise... it just feels like a natural time at the end of my contract," Wood stated in a social media post. "On medical advice, Test cricket and 50-over cricket are not possible... the England dream has slowly been ground out of me over the last year."
Wood took 119 wickets in 38 Tests and played a pivotal role in England's 2019 50-over World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup triumphs. His blistering spells also contributed to England's 2023 Ashes series comeback.
