EPA Punjab In Action Against Pollution: 158 Brick Kilns Demolished in 30 Days
LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026) The Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has intensified its efforts to combat pollution, leading to the demolition of 158 brick kilns across the province within a span of 30 days.
According to department statistics, between August 15 and September 15, 2026, a total of 7,953 brick kilns and related units were inspected. This resulted in:
- 69 units being sealed.
- 110 First Information Reports (FIRs) registered.
- Fines totaling Rs14.3 million imposed.
The districts with the highest number of demolished brick kilns include:
- Bhakkar: 24 kilns
- Bahawalpur: 17 kilns
- Sargodha: 13 kilns
- Jhelum and Okara: 12 kilns each
- Multan: 10 kilns
The EPA's crackdown extends beyond brick kilns, targeting other major sources of pollution. Field operations against smoke-emitting units and dust violations are being intensified in preparation for the smog season.
Lahore's air quality is also under constant monitoring, with the latest data indicating an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 106. Officials caution that fluctuations may occur due to varying weather conditions.
Director General Environment Protection Agency Punjab, Abdullah Nayyar Sheikh, emphasizes that strict action will be taken against all major polluters without exception. He reiterates the agency's commitment to controlling local pollution sources, particularly industrial emissions and brick kilns.
