Petroleum product prices in Pakistan are significantly higher than in several regional countries, according to the petitioner.

The Lahore High Court heard a petition challenging daily increases in petroleum product prices from a two-member bench headed by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh. The petitioner argued that petrol had become more than Rs30 per litre and diesel over Rs25 per litre within a week, a stark contrast to regional markets.

They questioned the government’s justification for these hikes, demanding transparency in the pricing formula. The petition highlighted the negative impact on citizens, citing a surge in inflation due to continued price increases.

The petitioner requested the court to compel the government to present its pricing strategy and offer immediate relief from these rises.
