Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal on Monday directed relevant institutions to turn the 150th birth anniversaries of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal, along with the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Mughal Empire, into a nationwide awareness campaign.
He argued that these commemorative activities should foster historical consciousness, intellectual awakening, and awareness of Pakistan’s cultural heritage among the younger generation, going beyond mere formal ceremonies.
Chairing a meeting to review preparations for these historic milestones, marked for 2026 and 2027, the minister emphasized that events should not be confined to ceremonial activities but serve as a means to instill a sense of national responsibility and a deeper connection with the country’s history and civilization.
Ahsan Iqbal instructed the organization of special programs in schools, colleges, and educational institutions nationwide from September to December, focusing on the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam. These programs could include:
- Essay-writing and speech competitions
- Inter-school and inter-institutional contests
- Painting competitions
- Creative activities centered around the Quaid’s sayings and vision
He advocated for international standards in these events, inviting renowned scholars, historians, educationists, and researchers globally to highlight Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Iqbal’s thoughts, the struggle for Pakistan, and the historical and cultural heritage of the subcontinent on a global intellectual stage.
The minister reminded that Quaid-i-Azam had risked his life for an independent homeland for Muslims in the subcontinent, and the sacrifices and commitment behind Pakistan’s achievement needed proper communication to the younger generation. He also noted the Quaid’s physicians’ confidential handling of his illness during a crucial period of the Pakistan struggle, showcasing exceptional professional responsibility and integrity.
