Fernandez Joins Man City for Joint-British Record Fee
Manchester City have completed the signing of Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for a joint-British record £125m.
This deal takes City's spending in the current transfer window to a Premier League-leading £458m, surpassing Liverpool's £415m from last summer.
Fernandez, who had been linked with Real Madrid earlier this year, was booed by Chelsea fans during pre-season matches and left out of their recent squads.
In an open letter on Instagram, Fernandez expressed his gratitude to Chelsea while acknowledging the challenging times he experienced at the club. He also thanked Manchester City for the opportunity.
"I want you to know that these have not been easy days for me," wrote Fernandez. "The truth is, I haven't been in a good place."
Chelsea had set an 17:00 BST deadline on August 14th for offers of £120m or more for Fernandez.
Fernandez worked with City manager Enzo Maresca during his time at Chelsea, and Maresca is eager to reunite with the Argentine midfielder.
"I could not be happier to be here," said Fernandez. "I am ready for the challenge of helping City continue winning trophies."
