Firefighting Drill at PIMS Fails After 14 Infants Die, Substandard Gas Found in Cylinders

A serious case of alleged negligence and fraud has come to light during an emergency drill conducted by the PIMS administration and the fire brigade following the tragic death of 14 newborn babies from burns at Islamabad’s largest government hospital.
According to journalist Ijaz Cheema, the hospital organized a formal firefighting drill with the fire brigade after the fire incident. However, the exercise exposed critical shortcomings within the department.
Cheema reported that the gas in the fire extinguishers used during the drill was counterfeit and substandard. Despite repeated spraying by doctors, nurses, and other staff until the cylinders were completely empty, they failed to extinguish even a small fire made of ordinary cardboard.
He cautioned that if a fire broke out again in any hospital department, the fake gas could cause further devastation instead of mitigating risks.
Journalistic circles and the public have expressed grave concern over this alleged criminal negligence and the supply of ineffective equipment. They’ve called upon the prime minister to:
- Take immediate action against the PIMS administration, fire brigade, and corrupt contractors supplying substandard firefighting gas.
- Initiate prompt legal proceedings against all those involved in the alleged serious fraud.
