For God’s Sake, Spare the Public! Former Senator Asif Kirmani Urges Rulers

The public can no longer bear expensive electricity, gas bills, petrol and diesel, education, healthcare, judicial justice and various ‘jaga taxes,’ says Nawaz Sharif’s former close aide in an X post.

Pakistan | Muslim League-Nawaz dissident, former senator and former close aide to ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Dr Syed Asif Kirmani, has criticized the country’s rising inflation, heavy gas and electricity bills, unnecessary taxes, and urged the rulers to show mercy to the public.
In a highly emotional social media statement on X, Dr Syed Asif Kirmani described the plight of ordinary people, stating that the tsunami of inflation had made life extremely difficult for the middle and poor classes. He highlighted the rising prices of daily essentials and basic services, noting that:
The public can no longer bear severe day-to-day inflation, expensive electricity, heavy gas bills, and continuously increasing petrol and diesel prices.
He claimed that citizens are being deprived of even basic necessities.
The former senator also criticized the rising costs in education, healthcare, and the judicial system, as well as additional taxes on the public. He asserted that quality education and medical treatment have become unaffordable for ordinary people while accessing judicial justice has become prohibitively expensive for the poor.
Referring to these various levies as ‘jaga taxes’, he stated they have broken the economic backbone of citizens.
Dr Syed Asif Kirmani urged those in power, exclaiming: "For God’s sake, spare the public!" because people have no more capacity to bear additional economic burdens or taxes.
