French Officials Investigate Possible Malicious Act in Train Derailment
BBC News reports that French officials are investigating whether a "malicious act" led to the derailment of a passenger train on Friday evening. A fragment of rail found on the tracks is under scrutiny, with its presence unexplained.
Local media indicate 186 passengers were aboard the train traveling between Rouen and Caen in Normandy, with 44 injured, one critically.
Passenger Louis described the incident to ICI Normandie radio: "Suddenly there were a few jolts, and then after about three seconds it got stronger and stronger… The windows partially shattered, the stones from the track came into the carriage. It was really shocking."
The train driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol, according to the Rouen prosecutor’s office.
