Fuel Management Keeps August FCA Lower, Saves Consumers Rs10.6bn: Leghari

ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 15th Sep, 2026)

Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari on Tuesday stated that timely decisions by the Power Division contributed to keeping the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for August 2026 at approximately Rs1.73 per unit, significantly lower than the previous month’s Rs2.0851 per unit. This resulted in a savings of Rs10.6 billion for electricity consumers.

The minister attributed these measures to saving valuable foreign exchange amidst rising international fuel prices and pressure on global markets due to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. He praised the cooperation of the people, who endured load management during nighttime hours.

"I sincerely thank the people for supporting the government in reducing electricity prices," said Leghari, "especially during a time when fuel prices are soaring globally." He emphasized that these savings are a result of the government’s public-friendly policies.

The achievement was highlighted by the maximum utilization of domestic resources. In August 2026, 72% of total electricity generation came from domestic sources, including:

  • Hydel (38%)
  • Local coal (11%)
  • Nuclear (10%)
  • Local gas (7%)
  • Wind (6%)
  • Solar energy (1%)

Only 28% was generated from imported coal and RLNG. Due to disruptions in RLNG supplies, spot cargo prices reached an exceptional $23–25 per MMBtu. Following the Prime Minister’s instructions, the Power Division collaborated with the Petroleum Division and NCMC to secure additional domestic gas for the power sector, avoiding the need to purchase expensive RLNG.

"These coordinated efforts," Leghari said, "resulted in a lower FCA for August 2026." The government remains committed to providing relief to the people under its public-friendly policies.
