German business morale grew more than expected in August, according to a survey by the Ifo Institute on Tuesday, suggesting Europe’s largest economy is on the mend.
"Despite the renewed rise in energy prices, the German economy is recovering," said Ifo President Clemens Fuest, as quoted by Reuters.
German GDP expanded by 0.3% in Q2 2026 compared to the previous quarter—slightly above a preliminary reading of 0.2% last month, according to statistics office data released on Tuesday. This, coupled with Ifo’s survey results, strengthens indications of a recovery for Germany’s ailing economy.
The Ifo business climate index climbed to 88.8 in August from 86.7 in July. Economic expectations also rose in the survey to 89.1 in August from 86.8 in July.
