Non-league club condemn person impersonating manager
BBC Sport reports that Gainsborough Trinity have strongly condemned a person falsely claiming to be their manager, Russ Wilcox, making false representations to players across different levels of non-league football.
This individual has been approaching players with transfer and wage offers, prompting concerns from other managers and officials who directly contacted Wilcox, suspecting deception.
Matt Boles, Gainsborough’s CEO, stated:
"We strongly condemn the actions of the individual responsible. Impersonating a football manager and making false representations to players is completely unacceptable…"
Boles added that the club has notified both the Northern Premier League and the Football Association about these incidents. Wilcox has been with Gainsborough since 2023, following managerial roles at Scunthorpe United and York City.
