GIMS Chief Orders Fire Safety Audit After PIMS Incident
UrduPoint (August 27, 2026) – SUKKUR: (APP) Director of the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Dr Raheem Bux Bhatti, has ordered a comprehensive review of fire safety arrangements at the institute following the recent incident at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad.
According to a press release issued by GIMS administration on Wednesday, Dr Bhatti directed all relevant departments to ensure strict adherence to and effective implementation of fire safety standard operating procedures (SOPs). He emphasized that no negligence in implementing these SOPs would be tolerated, adding that hospitals are highly sensitive facilities where the safety of patients, attendants, and medical staff should always be a top priority.
The director instructed that all firefighting equipment, including fire extinguishers and hydrants, remain functional and regularly inspected. Furthermore, he directed that emergency exits and evacuation routes stay clear, properly marked, and accessible at all times. Dr Bhatti also ordered the administration to conduct regular staff training on fire safety, emergency evacuation, and first response, as well as maintain a comprehensive emergency plan aimed at minimizing loss of life in case of any unforeseen incident.
He stressed that preemptive safety measures, trained staff, and an effective emergency response plan are essential for managing any emergency situation. GIMS is committed to upholding the highest standards of patient safety.
