Goods Transport Owners Association Announces 10% Fare Increase

Diesel prices have risen by around Rs18 in 17 days, goods transporters say, calling the daily changes in petroleum prices unacceptable and demanding their immediate reversal.
KARACHI (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News) – The Goods Transport Owners Association has announced a 10% increase in fares following a rise in diesel prices. According to the media, goods transporters stated that diesel prices had increased by approximately Rs18 in just 17 days, warning that they would have no alternative but to go on strike again if the agreement was not fully implemented.
They argued that the rising oil prices were significantly increasing transporters’ expenses, directly impacting the public. They further added that operating transport services at the existing fares had become difficult post the increase in diesel prices.
The government is urged to implement the written agreement with transporters in its entirety, they stated, threatening to go on strike again if their demands are not met.
The previous day, Goods Transporters President Malik Shahzad Awan had also strongly condemned the daily increase in petroleum product prices. He described the decision to alter petroleum product prices daily as unacceptable and called for its immediate withdrawal.
