Government, Opposition Begin Consultations on Chief Election Commissioner Appointment

The opposition leader has replied to the prime minister’s letter, requesting a date and time for consultations.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint) Consultations between the government and the opposition have commenced regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and two members. A pivotal opposition meeting was held in the office of Opposition Leader Raja Nasir Abbas, attended by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Barrister Gohar, and Salman Akram Raja.

The meeting held in-depth discussions on the September 27 protest and directed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to make comprehensive preparations for the event. It was decided to reach out to all political parties and convene an All-Parties Conference (APC) to address the country’s deteriorating situation. A meeting of the Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Aain will be held on September 15 to review preparations for the APC.

According to sources, the opposition leader responded to the prime minister’s letter after consulting with opposition leaders.
