Govt Launches Thorough Probe Into PIMS Incident: Talal Ch

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences’ (PIMS) neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Talking to media, the minister revealed that CCTV footage and other evidence have been secured to ascertain the cause of the incident and hold accountable any negligent parties.
Talal Chaudhry noted that the rescue team reached PIMS within six minutes of receiving the fire alert, with all administrative officers promptly present at the hospital following the rescue operation. He added that the initial rescue operation’s report has been submitted to the Prime Minister and the interior minister.
The state minister informed that the Prime Minister had established an inquiry team to investigate the incident from every angle. He assured that any negligence would be uncovered in the inquiry, aiming to establish the facts surrounding this tragedy.
Talal Chaudhry mentioned that thus far, 14 children’s bodies have been handed over to their families. He emphasized the securing of CCTV footage and all relevant evidence while emphasizing that the inquiry will determine the presence of doctors, nurses, and other staff members in the NICU during the firebreakout.
Meanwhile, PIMS Executive Director Dr Imran Sikandar provided details about the incident. He stated that two doctors, four nurses, and other staff were present in the NICU at the time. Dr Sikandar praised one doctor’s efforts in rescuing a newborn during the fire.
He explained that entry restrictions at PIMS were implemented due to previous child theft incidents, highlighting the hospital’s security measures. The executive director confirmed that PIMS had an adequate fire-safety system and access to 24 oxygen cylinders. He added that the rescue team faced no obstructions while conducting their operation.
Dr Sikandar expressed profound sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and assured stringent action against anyone found responsible upon inquiry completion.
