Hammad Azhar Remanded In Jinnah House Attack Case
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Federal Minister Hammad Azhar has been remanded into police custody for 21 days by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore, regarding the Jinnah House attack case linked to the May 9 incidents.
Sarwar Road police had earlier produced Azhar before ATC Judge Sardar Muhammad Akram. The investigation officer (IO) stated that Azhar was arrested recently in connection with the case and had been a fugitive for a significant period. The IO requested a 60-day physical remand for interrogation and to conduct photogrammetric tests and forensic analysis of Azhar’s social media accounts.
However, Azhar’s counsel opposed the request, arguing that such a remand couldn’t be granted solely on future evidence. After hearing both sides, the court agreed to a 21-day physical remand.
The case was registered against PTI leaders and workers by Sarwar Road police for attacking Jinnah House, the official residence of the Lahore corps commander, during the May 9 demonstrations.
