Harry and Meghan’s Security Review After Return to UK
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to undergo a review of their publicly-funded security after their return to live in the UK.
It has been revealed that Ravec, the committee responsible for overseeing royal and VIP security, will reassess Prince Harry and Meghan’s police protection now that they and their two children, Archie (7) and Lilibet (5), are considered full-time residents rather than visitors.
This review will factor in potential risks at their new home and the types of trips taken by the family, including regular travel routes and school runs. It also emerged that the Sussexes have switched schools for their children shortly after they started, due to security concerns raised by their team.
Previously, Prince Harry mounted an unsuccessful legal challenge over his police security while visiting from the US. However, with their return to the UK, a new set of circumstances has arisen for their taxpayer-funded security arrangements. Last week, Ravec met to discuss their case.
The committee, which includes representatives from the Home Office, police, and Royal Household, is ready to evaluate potential dangers facing the couple and level of protection required. A so-called Risk Management Board will consider these threats, but no final decisions have been made at this time.
The review will also encompass security for the children, and according to HELLO! magazine, they have changed schools. The names of the schools remain private, but concerns from the Sussexes’ security team regarding "practicalities" led to the switch. A source close to the couple emphasized that their decision was not a reflection on the original school or the care provided.
It is worth noting that Prince Harry had an earlier review of his potential risks this summer, before it was known he would be returning to live in the UK full-time. This will mark Meghan’s first such security review since she and Prince Harry stepped down as working royals in 2020.
