Heavy Rain Inundates Parts Of Islamabad; Rawal Dam Spillways To Open – UrduPoint
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 1st Sep, 2026) Torrential rain inundated several low-lying areas of the Federal capital on Tuesday, with nullahs overflowing in E-11 and Ghouri Town and water entering roads and some building basements. While the Rawal Dam’s spillways were scheduled to be opened at 2pm as its water level reached 1,751.90 feet.
CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf and Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon visited rain-affected areas to review drainage operations, while teams from the CDA, MCI, district administration, and emergency services were deployed with de-watering machinery to clear accumulated water and maintain traffic flow.
The district administration reported 150mm of rain in E-11, where an overflowing nullah caused water to enter a road and some basements. The affected basements had already been sealed by the administration. In Ghouri Town Phase-II, water overflowed after a nullah was obstructed by slabs placed over it, prompting drainage operations under the supervision of the assistant commissioner.
The administration ensured traffic flow on major roads, including the Express Highway, was being maintained with the assistance of traffic police, while drainage work continued in I-8 and other affected areas. A protective wall also collapsed in D-12/2, though no loss of life or property was reported, according to the administration.
Meanwhile, the rise in Rawal Dam’s water level led authorities to open its spillways at 2pm. Rescue 1122, police, and other relevant departments were directed to remain alert, while citizens were advised to stay away from streams, drains, and low-lying areas.
CDA Chairman directed officials to remain in the field and ensure timely drainage of rainwater, while the deputy commissioner stated that all relevant departments, along with machinery, were deployed to respond to possible emergencies. The administration appealed to citizens to limit unnecessary movement during heavy rain and immediately report any emergency.
