Hidden Video Recording Device Found in Cabin of Australian Navy Ship

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has confirmed the discovery of a hidden video recording device in the cabin of the Royal Australian Navy ship HMAS Leeuwin located in Cairns, Queensland. The incident was reported on Sunday.

This revelation came after independent Australian senator Jacqui Lambie brought up allegations in parliament that "concealed cameras have recently been found in the female sailors' showers facilities." While the ADF hasn't specified the exact location of the device, it has acknowledged the incident and referred it to the Joint Military Police United.

Lambie expressed her concerns in the Australian Senate on Wednesday, stating:

"I was also told this had occurred recently and prevented the vessel from sailing while investigations were ongoing. Even more disturbing are claims that footage from these cameras may have been uploaded online before the cameras were discovered." "How many of our female sailors have unknowingly been recorded in their most private moments? How much footage has been distributed online so far, retained or uploaded without knowledge or consent?"

The defence department later confirmed the device's discovery but provided no additional details. In a statement, they emphasized:

"Defence takes this incident extremely seriously and does not tolerate unacceptable behaviour in any form." "The welfare of individuals remains Defence's priority, and support is ongoing."

Key Points:

  • The device was found on Sunday in the HMAS Leeuwin cabin.
  • Senator Lambie raised concerns about female sailors' privacy.
  • The defence department is investigating, but details are limited to protect individual privacy.
