LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Oct, 2026) A Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence Laboratory has been established at the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, Punjab University, to conduct research in artificial intelligence focused on human needs and requirements.

The laboratory has been established with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the Turkish government’s official development cooperation agency.

Turkish Consul General Muhammad Ameen Shamshak, TİKA Vice President Ali Ercan, Punjab University Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mahmood Saleem, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Professor Dr Shahzad Sarwar, Dr Kamran Malik and other faculty members attended the inauguration ceremony. TİKA Vice President Ali Ercan formally inaugurated the laboratory.

Addressing the ceremony, Ali Ercan said they wanted to further promote academic ties and mutual cooperation between the universities of Pakistan and Türkiye.

He said TİKA was funding several projects at various educational institutions in Pakistan, which would further strengthen educational cooperation between the two countries.

He noted that AI was advancing rapidly, with immense potential in education, healthcare, research and public services. However, it was crucial to consider the purpose of these technologies, who they benefited, and their impact on human lives.

The laboratory, he added, had been established with this perspective in mind, aiming to be a space where students and researchers not only acquired technical skills but also evaluated the effects of developed systems on human lives.

Consul General Muhammad Ameen Shamshak echoed these sentiments, expressing a desire to strengthen academic ties and mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye. TİKA, he said, was providing financial support for several projects at various educational institutions in Pakistan, promoting collaboration between the two brotherly countries.

Professor Dr Shahzad Sarwar informed that the new laboratory was equipped with modern computing and server facilities. He also mentioned a joint research agreement reached with Türkiye’s Yildiz Technical University. Under this arrangement, the two universities would collaborate on joint research projects, while exchanges of faculty and student delegations were also planned.
