When Sohail Afridi's candidacy for chief minister was previously up for grabs, establishment touts spread various claims, but we still elected him, Junaid Akbar, a PTI leader, asserts.
LAHORE (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026) PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar stated: "I challenge you to remove Sohail Afridi; we will make him chief minister again the next day." He recalled that when Sohail Afridi was about to become chief minister, establishment touts had made several assertions.
Akbar referenced Sohail Afridi's previous statement: "Let anyone with the courage stop Sohail Afridi from becoming chief minister." He noted that despite these claims, everyone voted during the budget process, as witnessed.
Junaid Akbar further questioned: Under what law was Nawaz Sharif allowed to travel from prison to Britain and receive bail at the airport? He suggested that the Supreme Court consider opening a herbal medicine shop given its recent involvement in the case of PTI founder Imran Khan.
He criticized the delay in hearing the case of Abdul Latif, Chitral MNA, who had been acquitted along with others, highlighting what he saw as unequal treatment of PTI cases.
Describing the debate over new administrative units and provinces as a "deception," Akbar argued that the real objective was not to create empowered units but to strengthen federal government control over provincial resources under the NFC Award. He cited Mohsin Naqvi's claim that smaller units were necessary for effective governance while noting that the proposed system would retain control of crucial ministries like cricket, interior, and foreign affairs within themselves.
The PTI leader raised questions about Islamabad's limited area and population, asking if basic facilities like hospitals and schools had been addressed there.
