Arsenal's Kyra Cooney-Cross: Dedicating Her Emirates Return to Her Mum

A Personal Tribute
Cooney-Cross, who will face Crystal Palace this Sunday, shares her experience:
"I know mum would want me here playing and training... I want to play for her as well and for the fans."
A Devastating Loss
Her mother was diagnosed with stage four cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive bile duct cancer, in January. She sadly passed away in July at the age of 45.
"She was a beautiful human... I want to carry her in everything I do."
Sacrifices for Football
Cooney-Cross credits her mother's sacrifices for her successful football career. Growing up, her mother drove her four times a week to train in Melbourne, making considerable financial compromises.
"Mum was a single mum of four girls... I want to carry her in everything I do and how I play."
A Supportive Environment
Despite the tragedy, Cooney-Cross expresses gratitude for the support she has received:
"Everyone has been so amazing... Being able to be at home and slow down, be present, and being with my mum was the most important thing."
A Game Changer
The 24-year-old Australia international is a key figure in the national team, having made 63 appearances and started all seven matches at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.
"It's mixed emotions... I would say I'm excited, but it's also going to be an emotional day."
