IGP Reviews Medical Facilities and Performance of Sindh Police Hospital
KARACHI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 8th Sep, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Javed Alam Odho chaired a review meeting on Tuesday to assess medical facilities and the performance of the Sindh Police Hospital, Garden Headquarters.
Meeting Details:
- Attendees: DIGPs Headquarters, Finance, Administration; Karachi and South Zone, AIGPs State Management, Logistics and Welfare, Medical Superintendent Dr Arshad Sheikh, Additional MS Police Hospital, and doctors.
Medical Facilities & Performance:
The Medical Superintendent presented an overview of:
- Daily OPD attendance
- Emergency services
- Laboratory facilities
- Availability of medicines
- Doctor and paramedical staff
- Departmental facilities (including requirements)
Financial Matters & Equipment:
DIGP Finance discussed the hospital’s financial affairs, procurement of:
- Medicines
- Medical and technical equipment
- Computers
- CCTV cameras
- Infrastructure (construction and repairs)
Key Points:
- All medical officer positions at the Sindh Police Hospital are filled.
- Daily OPD services cater to between 300 and 400 patients.
- The hospital’s laboratory operates at standards comparable with leading private-sector labs.
- Free medicines are provided for diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic conditions.
- The Sindh government offers health insurance coverage of up to Rs1 million for police employees and their families as in-door patients (excluding OPD services, lab tests, seasonal illnesses, or routine meds).
IGP’s Directives:
- Enhance OPD and laboratory facilities at police hospitals and dispensaries.
- Ensure 24/7 operational emergency services at the hospital.
- Secure adequate medical equipment, medicines, and staff.
- Approach the Sindh government’s Health Department for appointments of physicians, surgeons, and consultants at police hospitals.
- Request proposals for improving facilities through public-private partnerships.
- Post women police personnel with relevant qualifications in Sindh Police hospitals.
Field Visit:
IGP Javed Alam Odho also visited various departments, laboratories, testing equipment, and patient wards of the Sindh Police Hospital to gain firsthand insights.
