Indonesia's Anak Krakatau Eruption Halts Flights, Schools, Fishing

JAKARTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 06th Sep, 2026) An eruption of Indonesia's Mount Anak Krakatau caused six airports to suspend flight operations on Sunday, affecting hundreds of flights at Jakarta's main airport. Additionally, school activities and fishing were halted, according to Reuters.
Ash reached as high as 6,000 meters on the Java side of the volcano and 15,000 meters on the Sumatra side and parts of Banten province in Java. The meteorological agency BMKG reported this on its website.
The disaster mitigation agency, BNPB, advised the public to remain calm while increasing vigilance. They recommended wearing masks and eye protection during ashfall, reducing outdoor activities, covering water sources, and exercising caution while driving as volcanic ash can reduce visibility.
