Infantino's Proposals:
In a letter to FIFA Council members (seen by BBC Sport), Gianni Infantino suggested two reforms:
- External Review: Commission an independent external review of FIFA's governance framework for strategic initiatives and recommend potential improvements.
- Consultation Period: Establish a direct consultation with confederations, member associations, and relevant stakeholders on enhancing decision-making processes. This would involve discussing earlier institutional involvement, roles of various bodies, transparency, participation, and accountability in major strategic initiatives.
The proposals come as Infantino faces increasing pressure over his Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal, which Uefa and Concacaf have demanded $10 million from FIFA's cash reserves.
Recent Developments:
- Fifa's opposition to Uefa's legal proceedings against it for the FFE plan.
- Uefa's preparation of criminal legal proceedings against Infantino at US courts.
- Infantino's upcoming election for a fourth term in March 2027, with opponents having until November 18th to nominate a candidate.
