US Open 2026: Jannik Sinner and Jack Draper withdraw from Flushing Meadows event with knee and arm injuries
BBC Sport reports that both Jannik Sinner and Jack Draper will not be participating in the upcoming US Open due to injuries.
Sinner’s Withdrawal
The world number one, Sinner, has been dealing with a knee problem since winning the Wimbledon title in July. He expresses his disappointment:
"Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year."
Draper’s Withdrawal
Draper, who lost to Sinner in the 2024 US Open semi-finals, suffers from a long-term arm injury that has hindered his progress. He has played only 16 matches in the past 12 months, missing all four Grand Slam tournaments this year.
The Rivalry
Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz dominated the Grand Slam titles in 2024 and 2025, each winning four majors. However, their rivalry has not reached the same intensity due to Alcaraz’s recent injuries.
Recent Achievements
Sinner won his second Grand Slam title at the 2024 US Open and reached the final again last year. He also claimed his fifth career Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon in 2025.
Draper, on the other hand, reached the Madrid Open final on clay and won the Indian Wells title on hard courts, showcasing his versatility.
