British officials and citizens will face entry bans, while the UK will be barred from a US-led liaison mission for Gaza, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said.

Background

According to the British government’s website, the consulate in occupied Jerusalem represents the British government in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza.

Sa’ar’s Announcement

Sa’ar stated that Israel was closing the British Consulate in occupied Jerusalem in response to Britain’s announcement of restrictions on products from illegal Israeli settlements. He further mentioned:

  • The UK would no longer be allowed to participate in a US-led liaison mission for Gaza.
  • British training for Palestinian Authority security forces in the West Bank would be terminated.
  • Selected British officials and citizens would be barred from entering Israel.

Recall of Trade Restrictions

It may be recalled that 12 countries, including the UK, France, and Canada, have announced or supported trade restrictions on products from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
