The United States is engaging in direct communication with Yemen’s Houthi group, according to US Vice President JD Vance. He made this revelation to reporters before a rally in Kansas City, Missouri, in preparation for the midterm elections.

While Vance did not disclose further details about the talks, he emphasized the US government’s continued communication with the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other region-affected nations.

The vice president expressed particular concern over the Houthis’ control of Mayyun Island, strategically positioned near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

Earlier, US media reported that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with President Donald Trump, requesting direct airstrikes against the Houthis. However, Trump opted for a more cautious approach, agreeing only to provide Saudi Arabia with intelligence and target identification assistance.

The Houthis’ claim regarding the talks has remained unverified.
