JICA, Punjab C&W Department Discuss Modernisation of Road Infrastructure

LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Sep, 2026) A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited the Communications & Works (C&W) Department and held discussions with Provincial Minister for Communications & Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth and Secretary C&W Raja Jahangir Anwar.

The Japanese delegation, consisting of Yujiro Iko, Shintaro Moto, and Nakamura, explored areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration with the provincial authorities.

Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth provided insights into the Punjab government’s initiatives to enhance road development and maintenance using modern, sustainable methods. He also spoke about the upcoming Road Asset Management System, expected to be implemented within a month.

The meeting highlighted advanced techniques for evaluating road and bridge conditions, with officials noting that 40 C&W Department engineers had already undergone training in Japan. This training will significantly contribute to road and bridge projects across Punjab.

The provincial minister mentioned an upcoming inter-provincial seminar on road infrastructure scheduled for September 11. He highlighted successful road rehabilitation projects under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab, along with the completion of mapping for 85,000 kilometers of roads throughout the province.

The JICA delegation expressed appreciation for the C&W Department’s performance and visited their Operations and Control Room. Officials demonstrated the department’s online monitoring and complaint management system.

At the end of their visit, Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth presented souvenirs to the JICA delegation members.
