Federal Minister for Health, Syed Mustafa Kamal has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the deaths of 14 newborn babies in a fire at the nursery of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, the Health Minister stated that the fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit after an air-conditioning unit allegedly exploded. The presence of oxygen in the ward exacerbated the blaze, leading to the deaths of 14 innocent newborns.
Mustafa Kamal noted that the PIMS administration and relevant enforcement agencies had arrived at the scene to investigate the incident and uncover all facts. Senior officials from the Ministry of Health were also present at PIMS, monitoring the situation.
He described the loss of innocent newborn lives as an extremely tragic and heartbreaking event, emphasizing that the grief of the affected families could not be adequately expressed in words. The minister assured that the government and the Ministry of Health stood with the bereaved families during this difficult time.
Mustafa Kamal offered his prayers for the strength and patience of the parents and families to bear this irreparable loss.
