Karachi Hospital’s Alleged Negligence Leads To Amputation Of One-Month-Old Baby’s Hand

The baby allegedly received 6 to 7 injections through an incorrectly placed cannula, leading to a severe infection that required the amputation of his hand four days later. A case was registered against the doctor and hospital staff at the Pirabad Police Station.
According to a media report, one-month-old Azmatullah's hand had to be amputated due to this alleged negligence in Karachi.
The baby’s father recounted that on 31 August, he took his son to a hospital in Orangi Town No. 4 where Dr Yaser Inam placed a cannula in the child’s hand and bandaged it. Three staff members then administered 6 to 7 injections through the cannula.
When the bandage was removed, the baby's hand had turned completely black, indicating severe infection. Despite the doctor prescribing medicines, the infection spread, prompting the father to take his son to Jinnah Hospital. There, doctors confirmed that the infection resulted from the incorrectly placed cannula and required amputation of the child’s hand.
Police have registered a case against the doctor and hospital staff and have initiated proceedings. They are also seeking an investigation by the Healthcare Commission.
