ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th Sep, 2026) Oil production from fields in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak and Lakki Marwat districts witnessed a significant boost during 2025-26, with a 16% rise in oil output and a substantial 20% surge in gas production.
Key Findings:
- Oil Production: The five fields under consideration produced 6.73 million barrels of oil in 2025-26, marking a 16.4% increase from the previous year’s figure of 5.78 million barrels.
- Gas Production: Gas output reached 72,126.32 million cubic feet, a year-on-year rise of nearly 19.7%, with notable contributions from fields like Makori Deep.
Field-wise Performance:
Oil Production Leaders:
- OGDCL’s Nashpa Field: Produced 3.73 million barrels in 2025-26, recovering from the previous year’s 3.41 million barrels but still below the 3.95 million barrels recorded in 2023-24.
- MOL’s Makori East Field: Output stood at 1.99 million barrels, slightly lower than the preceding year’s 2.04 million barrels and 2.75 million barrels in 2023-24.
Notable Growth:
- MOL’s Makori Deep Field: Experienced a dramatic increase, jumping from 0.01 million barrels in 2024-25 to 0.77 million barrels in 2025-26.
Declining Trends:
- OGDCL’s Bettani Field (Lakki Marwat): Output fell to 0.23 million barrels in 2025-26 from 0.30 million barrels the previous year, and 0.34 million barrels in 2023-24.
- MOL’s Manzalai Field: Produced 0.01 million barrels in 2025-26, down from 0.03 million barrels in 2024-25 and 0.04 million barrels in 2023-24.
Gas Production Highlights:
- Nashpa Field: Led with 33,152.48 million cubic feet of gas production in 2025-26, up from 27,121.58 million cubic feet the previous year.
- Makori Deep: Experienced the most significant increase, surging to 8,695.09 million cubic feet in 2025-26 from only 115.09 million cubic feet in 2024-25.
Despite the impressive recovery, aggregate production in 2025-26 remained lower than the levels achieved two years earlier.
