A Sequel After 23 Years: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Returns
A sequel to the beloved rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is in development, more than two decades after its original release. According to sources close to the project (external links), original star Kate Hudson will be producing the film, and there’s a strong possibility she’ll reprise her iconic role as Andie, the magazine journalist who challenges her boss’s bet about modern dating.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) starred Hudson alongside Matthew McConaughey as Benjamin, a man she attempts to make fall for her in just ten days while he bets his boss he can win over any woman. The film was a box office success, grossing nearly $180 million worldwide and solidifying Hudson’s status as a leading actress. Her iconic yellow silk Carolina Herrera dress from the film remains a memorable piece of cinema fashion.
Hudson has been busy since her last on-screen appearance in Song Sung Blue (2025), for which she received her second Oscar nomination. McConaughey, on the other hand, has starred in films like Dallas Buyer’s Club, The Wedding Planner, and Magic Mike. The two actors previously worked together in Fool’s Gold (2008).
Stacey Sher, known for producing hits such as Pulp Fiction and Matilda, will co-produce the sequel with Hudson.
This project follows a trend in Hollywood of nostalgic sequels, including The Devil Wears Prada 2, which came 20 years after its predecessor and also starred an employee named Andy (played by Anne Hathaway).
In 2024, McConaughey shared his memories of working with Hudson on the original film with People magazine:
"Immediately, we were comfortable with each other, and we jacked with each other, and we busted each other’s chops, and we laughed a lot. There was a bit of rock and roll exchange… ‘Oh, this could be some heavyweight fun.’ And I think that’s why I was cast, and that’s why, for whatever extent, it worked."
