Khalifa University and UNESCO Launch Global Water Hackathon 2026
A Research-Driven International Initiative
Khalifa University of Science and Technology and UNESCO announced the launch of the Khalifa University–UNESCO Global Water Hackathon 2026, a unique international event. This hackathon brings together university students worldwide with researchers, industry experts, and policymakers to tackle global water challenges through innovative solutions.
A Structured Approach:
Unlike traditional hackathons, this initiative follows a comprehensive process:
- Framing the problem
- Research and solution development
- Technical mentoring
- Validation
- Impact assessment
The event will culminate in a global showcase and awards ceremony during the 2026 UN Water Conference in Abu Dhabi in December.
Supporting Sustainable Development:
Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, the hackathon’s six challenge themes align with UN Water pillars, ensuring solutions consider scientific, technological, societal, environmental, and policy aspects.
Who Can Participate?
Undergraduate and graduate students from recognised higher education institutions worldwide are eligible. The event encourages interdisciplinary collaboration across various fields, including engineering, science, data science, public policy, health, environmental studies, and more.
