Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the Path to Digital Transformation: Shafi Jan
PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 27th Aug, 2026) Information Minister, Shafi Jan on Thursday stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is progressing towards digital transformation, with the provincial government implementing a comprehensive strategy to modernize public services, digitize revenue collection, and promote cashless transactions throughout the province.
This initiative, guided by the vision of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and executed under the leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, aims to utilize technology for transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly governance, according to official sources.
Provincial Information Minister Shafi Jan, in a statement regarding the achieved progress, noted that digital transformation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is no longer a theoretical concept but a tangible reality. He added that investing in the technology sector not only creates new job opportunities for youth but also strengthens the provincial economy. The government is committed to leveraging digital solutions to enhance access and transparency in public service delivery.
Highlighting key milestones, the minister informed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) has incorporated 462 services into its complete digital transformation pipeline, while 795 government services have already been mapped for end-to-end digital delivery under the Cashless KP initiative. He further stated that 800 services are currently undergoing business Process Reengineering for digital redesign, ensuring seamless technology integration into administrative workflows.
In the financial realm, the minister reported that digital platforms under Cashless KP have facilitated over Rs. 6.8 billion in transactions across the province. By March 2026, digital revenue channels under the same system collected Rs. 4.3 billion, while the Paymir platform generated Rs. 726 million in digital payments during March and April 2026. These figures demonstrate the growing public trust in digital systems and the government’s success in promoting a cashless economy, according to Shafi Jan.
Regarding human resource development, the minister noted that 870 youth from the merged districts have completed training in employable digital skills, preparing them for opportunities in the technology sector. He also mentioned the Frontiers in Science program, allocating a maximum research grant of Rs. 40 million per consortium to foster scientific innovation and a research culture in the province.
Shafi Jan characterized these initiatives as foundational steps toward a modern governance system where technology serves not only to digitize official processes but to make public services more convenient, swift, and readily accessible to every citizen.
