Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi expressed condemnation for the cowardly terrorist attack in Dera Ismail Khan. He emphasized the government's opposition to closed-door policies detrimental to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the nation as a whole.

He highlighted the impact of such policies, noting:

  • Continuous martyrdom of youth, police officers, soldiers, and ordinary citizens.
  • Failure to establish lasting peace despite 22 major and over 14,000 minor operations in the past 22 years.

Sohail Afridi called for a review of the current policy, stating:

  • The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has allocated an additional Rs35 billion for the police, with the police budget reaching Rs191 billion for fiscal year 2026-27.
  • Immediate provision of required weapons, equipment, and armored personnel carriers for the police is essential.

Reiterating his stance, he emphasized:

  • Opposition to closed-door policies harmful to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the country.
  • Potential for irresponsible federal minister statements to intensify hatred and unrest among provinces.
  • Alarming nature of labeling the public as terrorists.

He referenced a provincial action plan, presented to the federal government, demonstrating capacity for peace measures within 100 days. He questioned the lack of implementation:

  • Serious decisions in Pakistan’s interest and effective efforts for lasting peace are necessary to curb terrorism.
  • He assured that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers remain politically aware, emphasizing the peaceful nature of their long march, scheduled for October 4th.
