Korea Funds Multan’s $10m Urban Flood Plan
Korea’s aid agency is backing a $10 million urban flooding project to shield Multan’s low-lying quarters from monsoon deluges, officials said Tuesday.
MULTAN, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 8th Sep, 2026) | Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) met with WASA Multan Managing Director Faisal Shaukat to present the final design for a storm water storage tank, a key component of the flood-mitigation scheme.
A delegation of consultants and experts from KOICA discussed the following:
- A master plan to protect the historic city from urban flooding.
- An underground water storage tank at the Kadi Jamandaan disposal station to drain rainwater swiftly from low-lying areas.
- Capacity-building training for WASA officials and staff to handle urban flooding emergencies.
Once completed, the scheme is expected to bring significant relief to areas including:
- Khooni Burj
- Pak Gate
- Haram Gate
- Shaheen Market
- Circular Road
- Shah Khurram
- Delhi Gate
MD Shaukat called the Korean-funded initiative a "milestone" for Multan, saying it would help the city manage emergencies arising from monsoon downpours more effectively.
